What Happens During a Check-Up?

A standard check-up at Bannockburn Dental includes:

Visual Examination

We thoroughly check your teeth, gums, jaw, and soft tissues for signs of decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and other conditions.

Digital X-rays (if required)

These allow us to see areas that are not visible to the naked eye, such as between teeth and below the gumline.

Gum Health Assessment

We evaluate your gum health and look for signs of inflammation or gum disease.

Bite & Jaw Joint Evaluation

We check your bite alignment and jaw function, especially if you're experiencing discomfort or grinding.

Discussion & Advice

We’ll explain our findings, answer your questions, and offer practical advice tailored to your dental needs.

We take our time to ensure nothing is overlooked and that you feel empowered with information about your oral health.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How often should I have a dental check-up?

Most people benefit from a check-up every 6 months. Some patients, especially those with gum disease or high decay risk, may need to visit more frequently.

2. Will I need X-rays at every check-up?

Not necessarily. X-rays are typically taken every 1–2 years unless there is a concern that requires closer investigation.

3. Do check-ups hurt?

No. A check-up is a non-invasive procedure. If you’re feeling nervous, we can talk you through each step and offer happy gas if needed.

4. What should I bring to my first appointment?

If you're a new patient, please bring any relevant medical or dental history and your private health insurance card (if applicable).

5. Are check-ups covered by health insurance?

Most private health funds include check-ups and exams under general dental cover. We can process your rebate on the spot.

6. What if I haven’t been to the dentist in a long time?

No judgment here. We’ll assess your oral health in a gentle, supportive way and help you get back on track.
