Dental Implants
Dental implants are an excellent long-term solution to replace missing teeth and restore your smile. They are composed of a titanium post that is placed into the jaw bone to replace the missing root of a tooth. Your bone then grows onto the implant surface which makes it a sturdy foundation for a replacement crown, bridge or denture. Implants are a strong, long-term solution that improve your ability to chew and reduce the forces on the remaining natural teeth.
Can i leave missing teeth?
There are a number of reasons why we recommend replacing your missing teeth:
- Your remaining teeth will experience greater forces and increase the risk of wear and fractures
- Your surrounding teeth may drift or tip into the space, which can cause difficulty cleaning
- If you are missing multiple teeth, you may experience reduced function and difficulty eating
- Over time your bone will start to shrink where the tooth was removed, potentially making it harder to restore in the future
Predictability
At Bannockburn Dental we use state of the art, guided implant placement to improve the predictability and outcomes of the treatment. By taking a 3D x-ray with our on site Cone Beam CT, we are able to digitally plan an implant and use advanced, 3D printed guides for extremely precise, predictable and minimally invasive implant placement. This reduces the risks of implant placement, increases the speed of the procedure and decreases any discomfort felt at the time. This also ensures that the crown blends with your natural teeth.
Once a tooth is removed, the bone will start to shrink and over time, and this may compromise our ability to place an implant. In these cases we can consider bone grafting to regrow your bone before placing an implant, increasing the long-term success of the treatment.

What does the procedure involve?
The dental implant procedure is typically performed in multiple stages:
- At your first visit your dentist will assess your needs and take a 3D scan of your bone to digitally plan your implants.
- At your next visit, your dentist will place the implant into your jawbone. A healing period is then required to allow the implant to fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration. During this healing period, we provide a temporary tooth so that your smile looks natural.
- Once the implant has fully integrated (healed), a custom-made dental crown is attached to the implant to provide a durable and natural looking tooth replacement.
We will guide you through each step of the process and answer your questions to ensure your comfort and satisfaction throughout.
